Gear
Do want.
I generally try to avoid buying things, but there are a few items– generally high-tech/high-practicality hiking & comm gear– that I would very much like to acquire.
My general method, budget-wise, is to pay monthly bills, save money up to my monthly savings goal (currently: 15% of my income), then earmark any surplus towards this gear queue. Here’s what I’m currently saving towards:
- a U.S. passport $130/130 (funded! thanks Dad!)
- a Trangia 25 alcohol stove (w/ pot & kettle) $75/75 (funded)
- a BearVault Solo 450 bear cannister $60/60 (funded)
- a Gregory Makulu Pro 70 backpack $300/300 (funded)
- a Britanne Aquis Adventure microfiber towel $30/30 (funded)
- a Hennessy Explorer Ultralite A-Sym hammock $130/220
- a Katadyn Hiker Pro water filter $0/40
- a Light-My-Fire Swedish Army firesteel $0/20
- a pair of Vibram FiveFingers $0/100
- a Sansa Fuze media player $0/90
- a Hammocks.com Adjustable Hammock Stand $0/100
- a canvas messenger bag
0wned:
- a new pair of Crocs Specialist Vent shoes $30/30
- an Motorola Droid X smartphone $160/160
