The latest, briefly: I accepted a temp position at Nature’s Path, an organic cereal factory up in Blaine WA. They work 12-hour shifts at that company (one of the reasons I decided not to apply towards an open permanent position; I’ll write more on that soon). Consequently, this upcoming weekend is going to be kind of a slog.
I was hoping to have some thoughts well-enough put together to write a full update today, but no dice. Need to get to bed so that I can start my day at 5am tomorrow. I’ll try for Monday instead.
(No worries, by the way. I’m a little grouchy about this specific work schedule, but generally relieved to be working again. This year is off to a decent start.)

a new look for fall
Tonight I decided to update Beyond Metamora to the latest version of WordPress and rearrange the site to look like a more conventional– well, more like a blog, basically.
It bums me out in one sense, but in other ways inspires me. I’m going to miss the homemade sharpie-marker design that I made in 2006, but I’m hitting a point where I need this site to be a more purely text-based & utility-rich medium. Maybe the next time I revamp the site I’ll figure out a way to combine the two styles and get my Sharpie warpaint back.
Right now, though, I just need a place to easily decompress some arbitrary text out of my brainpan. Lately the ideas have been piling up in my mind & on loose scraps scattered around my apartment without any easy place to put them. My main aim with this rebuild is to clear out the clutter and get more of those thoughts & schemes out into the light of day.
Out of town & off the net: Jan 14-19
I can’t even believe I’ll be getting onto an airplane in something like 12 hours. I have to make a sudden, unplanned trip to Detroit tomorrow to attend a funeral on Friday. I’m bringing my laptop, but in all likelihood I’ll be AFK until I’m back in B’ham next Tuesday morning. Ugh.
