There’s still 3 feet of snow on the mountain pass, but everywhere else it’s springtime in Washington and the apple trees are blooming.

Went to the Apple Blossum Festival today in Wenatchee, but it mostly made me lonely.

When I got to the public park outside the library there was a red-headed woman on stage playing folk songs and dulcimer. Local people milling around among festival booths, munching snow cones. Kids climbing on the civil war cannon. Neighborhood folks sitting around on apple crates with friends. I didn’t stay very long.

It all reminded me powerfully of Midwest county fairs and harvest festivals back in Metamora and made me anxious to be back home sharing life with my own friends and family. The last few weeks have been mostly boring, but now I only have a week to go.

Only 4 more working days until I’m free for the summer…
