WE GET SIGNAL?

by mwkelley

::static::crackle::hiss:: nah, I’m telling you it was here somewh– ACK! SPIDER, DIEEE! ::whap::static:: these cobwebs are all– wait, was it the blue wire or the red one… ::ZAPclickhummm::

Ah. And let’s get the power routed back into– ::BZZT:: *ahem* YES. Mic check, mic check. Let’s get this blog back online.

The date is August 31st. Last day of summer. Here’s a recap of “How I spent my summer vacation”:

Packed up everything. Left Arizona. Travelled the West Coast.

Saw… Imperial Beach, San Diego, Del Mar, Encinitas, Summerland, Long Beach (CA), Los Angeles, Malibu, Santa Monica, Big Sur, Golden Gate, Mt. Shasta, Ashland, Eugene, Corvalis, Portland, Olympia, Vashon Island, Seattle, Port Townsend, Lake Crescent, Long Beach (WA), Arcadia Beach, more of Corvalis, more Portland, more Seattle and finally… Bellingham.

It’s been a solitary summer. The Highway 1 roadtrip was a bit of a disappointment. I had to cut most of the sightseeing from the schedule, and stick to the more practical concerns of looking for a place to beach my ark. (From a practical standpoint, though, the trip was a big success. Bellingham is a dream-town.)

Ran out of money. Rented a dorm-room. Explored the area. Made some new friends.

Got a temp job. Made some money. Paid a couple bills– with some critical assistance at just the right time from various family members. Right now I’m just buying time, literally. On Monday I plunked down another month’s rent, effectively buying myself another 30 days in Bellingham.

Here’s the plan for September: ONE, get a permanent job, close to downtown. TWO, get a low-rent apartment, close to the job. THREE, sell the Honda (heck yes. had to renew my car insurance after all, since 8/23 was the deadline. still bummed about that.)

Sounds simple right? Easy like Sunday mornin’? We’ll see.

The bummer is: My long-term forecast is still just as unstable as it was on July 1. No telling when I’ll be able to get out to see you again in Michigan… or Illinois, or Mexico, or Maryland, or California, or Missouri, or INSERT_YOUR_LOCATION_HERE.

I’m hoping for around New Year’s for a Midwest revival, at least. But if you’ve known me this long, you know there’s really no telling for sure.

Later I’ll tell you all about my new(ish) long-term agenda. I’ll also try to elaborate a bit on the topic of “so what makes this Bellingham place so great, huh?” I’ll also try to get a bunch more of my pictures up on [Flickr].

Stay tuned to this station. I promise more than dead-air.
