38 days
1.) A reminder: [Lost] episodes don’t hit Bittorrent until Thursday afternoon. Please remember that there is a special hell reserved for people who spoil season finales. Yes, I am looking directly at you, Ian. Special hell, Ian. Special hell.
2.) Went to the beach after work today, instead of doing anything particularly useful. Later, I rode my bike down to the co-op. Ate some ice cream. I’m having a hard time trying to regret any of this, but it means another day of not much action. Haven’t accomplished much in the last couple days, really. Every day burned gets me one day closer to California, so that’s progress in itself, but there are some things I need to get started on while I still have some lead time (planning, sorting, Ebaying, etc).
3.) I originally went to the supermarket instead of my local hippie grocery, but was shocked to discover that isn’t even a single brand of ice cream in their entire 40-foot supermarket freezer that didn’t contain corn. Even Haagen Daas at 5 bucks a pint is fortified with corn syrup and soybean oil now. I’ll save this rant for another time, but this was kind of an epiphany moment for me. Vanilla ice cream does not have 20 ingredients. Vanilla ice cream has four ingredients: cream, sugar, eggs, vanilla. I’d say things have gotten pretty bad when an ice cream cone can represent our social theme of Technology Run Amok.
4.) There was a [a neat little commentary] on NPR this morning that really resonated with me. If you follow that link, you can listen to it on their site yrself. Don’t worry Mom, I’m shooting for a somewhat different approach than what she mentions (e.g. you won’t see me signing up as a guinea pig for lab trials any time soon… eww) but definitely a kindred spirit. An affirming thing to hear while driving to my generic corp job that I’ll be leaving in, yep you guessed it, 38 days.
